President Cristina Fernández has hit out at Argentines holding 4,040 accounts in a Swiss bank, affirming that the funds kept outside the country could be used to make great improvements in the local health structure.
Victory Front’s Senator Aníbal Fernández said he is meeting later today with the head of the Lower House Budget Committee Roberto Feletti to finalize details for the creation of the Congressional Commision to look into HSBC’s alleged illegal plan to help 4,040 clients evade taxes.
Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich stressed the importance of moving forward in the inquiry on HSBC for allegedly helping citizens and companies stash their money in secret Swiss banks accounts and called for a “frontal fight against tax evasion.”
The ruling Victory Front has succeeded in its intention to bring forward the implementation of the new Civil Code. A project passed by a Senate committee would move it forward to August 1, 2015.
The informal rate of the US currency traded ten cents lower at 13.00 pesos today, following an earlier 15-cent plunge. Meanwhile, the US dollar advanced one cent to close at 8.555 pesos in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices.
The United States Upper House has approved the designation of Noah Mamet as new ambassador to Argentina by 50 votes to 43. Mamet will replace Vilma Martínez, who left the post in mid 2013. Business attaché Kevin Sullivan has been filling the role since.
