FDNY Teams Help in Buffalo Area

After record snowfall in the Buffalo region, the FDNY Incident
Management Team, the Special Operations Command Task Force and Disaster
Assistance Response Team travelled upstate to help with emergency
services.
“With more than five feet of snow on the ground in many areas, the
FDNY wants to do our part to help our neighbors in Western New York
quickly get free from the effects of this deadly and crippling storm,”
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. “These members of the Incident
Management Team, Special Operations Command Task Force and Disaster
Assistance Response Team represent everything that is great about New
York City and make the Department proud.”
The Buffalo region experienced a record seven feet of snow last
week, trapping people in their homes. As the weather warmed over the
weekend, responders became concerned about the possibility of flooding
and roof collapses.
Special Operations Command Task Force members helped this woman out of one of the high-axle vehicles.
The 41 members of the FDNY Incident Management Team is coordinating
with local and regional officials upstate to bring help where it is
needed most and assist in managing this crisis.
The 35 members of the Special Operations Command Task Force is
providing operational support to local units, and has deployed 5
swift-water teams equipped with inflatable rafts and high-axle vehicles
to area firehouses to help in case of flooding.
The four members of the Disaster Assistance Response Team deployed
with the American Red Cross, bringing 500 cots and 1,000 blankets to
distribute to area residents.
